Messages

Direct Messaging lets you talk privately with other members. This requires the Direct Messaging add-on, and your account must be allowed to message.

Open inbox, start a conversation, and manage a thread.

Open your inbox​

  1. Choose Messages in the header.
  2. Select a conversation or start a new one with New.

Start a conversation​

Who you can message depends on community policy, for example:

  • Everyone
  • Mutual follows only
  • Staff only

When policy is staff-only, starting a conversation usually requires the initiate-direct-messages permission.

You can typically start a one-to-one or group conversation depending on what your community allows.

In a conversation​

Common actions include:

  • Send, edit, or delete messages
  • Mute the conversation
  • Rename a group; add or remove people; leave
  • Report a message

Report a message​

If a message is inappropriate, report it so admins can review it under Reported Messages.
